Old times Munich Marketplace now Marienplatz, copper engraving by Matthaeus Merian (1593-1650). In the middle of the illustration the Mariensaeule (Holy Mary’s column), erected in 1638 to commemorate the end of the Swedish occupation during the Thirty Years’War. The look of the city has changed considerably since but the spirit didn’t.
